big deposit of some of the face sketches from construction that I’ve done lately. some of these I like, some less so. there’s a little more repetition than I’d prefer, but overall I feel like I’m getting a bit better.

Another quick sketch all colored up. I think I like coloring things considerably more than doing line art at this point.
Armor’s pretty interesting stuff; except the legs, obviously. and man, this canvas texture is pretty sweet. I’ll probably keep using it.

A quick robot guy drawn solely on the sketch tablet. Feels unoriginal, like everything I make that I like

Well, I’m headed back into my co-op, which means I’ll have plenty of time for art stuff again. Throughout the semester, I’ve been slowly acquiring textures, brushes, reference stuff, and even a new tablet (an LE1700 tablet PC), so it’s nice to finally put that stuff into practice a little.
This is an old sketch I decided to ink and color; for inking I used Sketchbook Pro on the LE1700, then imported it to Photoshop on my Macbook and did colors with my primary tablet. I like the result a good bit; this is the sort of style I’m aiming for, albeit not as sloppy and maybe more detailed. Such standards have pretty much killed the chances of me ever being successful at a long form comic, but I still hope to do short ones at some point. Right now though, straight up illustration (hell, just calling it drawing) is interesting me the most.

sketched a better detail of one of the houses going into the next painting/illustration thing, threw some rough color and texture in there while I was at it. it’s possible this will be a much larger image than what I usually do- all the little architectural details can be quite a bit of fun.

boom-fancy-two-deactivated20120 asked: I am in love with the Fencing Club shirt you made! I totally want to use something like it for the Syracuse University Fencing Club that I'm captain of, would you mind?

Thanks! Well, it sort of depends- this was entered as an entry for the GA Tech Fencing Club’s T-shirt contest. If it wins, then I imagine our leadership wouldn’t want any other clubs using it, but I can ask. If it loses, then it’s cool with me. If that happens, I don’t mind if you follow the same theme, but please don’t directly copy it (like only changing the colors to match your school).

Anyway, give me until this weekend to check, and I’ll get back to you. It might be that’s okay for you to use it regardless, but I’ll need to see.

Regardless, I’m really glad you like it! Also- if you do wind up using it, and need someone to modify it for you, I’d be willing to do it for a small commission.

Sketch I rather like. The plan is to turn it into a kickin’ painting, and unlike how I usually do things, I think I’m going to post each step of the process on here and detail what I’ve done.
Next step will probably be to fix perspective problems, toy with composition instead. Anyway, this is just the beginning

T-shirt design for GA Tech Fencing Club (of which I’m a member). It’s been a long time since I did pixel art; probably not since I used to play with MS Paint as a kid. Anyway, it was surprisingly fun and easy to make this. I like it, but am going to try to do at least two more designs.

EDIT: just realized it actually needed to be “Yellow Jacket Fencing”, also added an outline for the heck of it, might keep it, might not

“But man is not made for defeat. A man can be destroyed but not defeated.”

Here’s a link to the full size version, since Tumblr’s resizing it:

Finally finished this one. I’ve been working on it on and off for over a month; the start of the semester seriously delayed its finish. I’ve got pretty mixed feelings about it overall; it started from a super lazy sketch, which then became some truly awful line art. I should’ve tossed it at that stage, but I had an odd sort of affection for it and kept working. So many revisions, but it’s still flawed on a fundamental level.

Even so, I learned a lot in the process of making it; mostly about faux watercolor texturing and my process for doing shadows and line art. My favorite part, as usual, was getting the face just right, so I tossed a more detailed shot of that in. If I feel like humiliating myself later maybe I’ll post a shot of his face at each revision.

Tunes while making this: The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly soundtrack, lots of Decemberists. Josh Ritter is also good.

And as ever, anything I can do with art is a gracious gift of God I feel tremendously blessed with.

Just realized I never tumblr’d this thing that’s kind of old now I guess
Man, I really wish I had time for art right now. It sucks to have an illustration 80% there and not be able to finish it!
